Creating GuildsAll the classes in the Create Abundant Landscapes series have been a joy, but the August 28-29 Create an Edible Landscape class was the one I looked forward to teaching the most. Since I began working with the patterns and processes of nature to help create and manage my garden, I have been amazed by how much I have learned about myself and the world simply by planting things in my backyard. The Edible Landscape class was a culmination of all this information. In many ways, the desire to learn and share these core ideas motivated me to join the Master Gardeners and found Backyard Abundance.

Planting at New PiDuring the class, participants put their knowledge and hands to work designing and implementing beds at the New Pioneer Food Co-op administration building at 523 Iowa Avenue. Participants in future workshops will continue to refine and expand the space. If you have a chance, stop by and see this emerging example of edible urban landscaping. Thank you to our forward-thinking food co-op and passionate community!

The landscape design (created by class participants) and pictures of the implementation can be seen at the Abundant Landscapes area.

Happy harvesting!
