Step-By-Step Coaching

Get Guidance, One Step at a Time

Work side by side with a coach to make clear, manageable progress in your outdoor space.

Work alongside a garden coach over several sessions to understand your space, set priorities, and take calm, manageable steps toward a more beautiful, low-maintenance landscape.

Sessions

  • 2–5 sessions

  • 75 minutes each

One session is rarely enough to build momentum, so we’ll decide together how many make sense after the first visit.

Price

  • 2 sessions: $260

  • 3 sessions: $350

  • 5 sessions: $550

Need more sessions later? You can add extra sessions anytime after the fifth; each additional session is $110.

Travel fees outside of the Iowa City area are estimated up front and included in your quote.

Benefits

  • Reduce Overwhelm: Turn “where do I even start?” into a short, clear list of next steps.

  • Lower Maintenance: Explore simple ways to reduce mowing, chores, and worry while keeping what you enjoy.

  • Understand Your Space: Learn how sun, shade, soil, and water shape what will thrive where.

  • Feel More Confident: Practice basic skills with a coach at your side rather than going it alone.

  • Move At Your Pace: Make progress in small, realistic steps that fit your time, energy, and budget.

Process

  1. First Session: We walk your space together for about 75 minutes, listen to your goals, and notice what is working and what is not.

  2. Clarify Priorities: Together, we name 1–3 focus areas and define a realistic first round of changes.

  3. Follow-Up Sessions: We return for hands-on coaching in those areas—laying out beds, choosing plants, or tackling specific challenges.

  4. Between Sessions: You try small actions, observe what happens, and we adjust the plan as you learn.

What You Receive

  • Walk-Through Recommendations: A slow walk around your space with on-the-spot ideas about your dreams, what’s working, and what’s not working.

  • Hands-On Layout Help: Standing in the yard with you to mark out beds, paths, and features using flags, rope, or quick sketches.

  • Publications: Research-based handouts and articles that explain concepts and practices in clear, beginner-friendly language.

  • Clear Priorities: A short list of focus areas and steps, so you know what to do next and what can wait.

  • Session Summary: A short follow-up email summarizing key decisions, ideas, and your next small steps.

  • Plant Lists: Researched low-maintenance plants and seed mixes that fit your goals, area conditions, and maintenance level.

  • Management Tips: Guidance on planting, watering, weeding, mulching, and seasonal care crafted so that fits your available time.

  • Resources and Materials Tips: Recommendations for tools, soil, mulch, and local or online sources that fit your budget.
